Tanzania’s sole representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup Young Africans braved all the odds to edge out Club Africain in a return leg match which was played in Tunis on Wednesday evening.
It was substitute Stephane Aziz Ki who made all the difference after he latched on to a knock down on the edge of the area by Fiston Mayele to put the Jangwani side into the lead in the 79th minute sending the home fans into silence.
Yanga indeed survived some nervy last minutes with constant raids from the Tunisian Club who won the Africa Winners Cup in 1991 (the precursor to the Champions League) after they beat another East African side SC Villa.
Having drawn the first leg in Dar es Salaam Yanga threw caution to the wind right from the start dominating the mid-field against their much fancied North African opponents.
Bookmakers had ruled out any possibilities of Yanga making it to the group stage against Club Africain given the home side’s form.
Yanga will now play in the group stage of CAF Confederation Group stage after they failed to qualify for the more lucrative Champions League .
