Diego Lainez was the surprise omission as Gerardo Martino cut four players and named Mexico’s final squad for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Jesus Angulo, Santiago Gimenez and Erick Sanchez were the other men left out.
Martino had already decided against recalling Javier Hernandez, while Jesus Corona was recently ruled out through injury. The squad will still include big names in the form of goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, Hector Moreno, Hector Herrera, Andres Guardado, Edson Alvarez, Hirving Lozano and Raul Jimenez.

El Tri have fallen at the Round of 16 at seven successive World Cups. If Mexico get through a section also comprising Argentina, Poland and Saudi Arabia, they will face opponents from Group D, which features Australia, Denmark, France and Tunisia, in the first knockout round.
